Aster Live Steam Gauge 1 (Scale 1/32) - Working models in kit form or ready to run

Since 1975 the Aster Hobby Co Inc of Japan have been producing a range of limited edition gauge 1 (1/32 scale) live steam working model locomotives built predominantly in kit form for the enthusiast to assemble but also as ready to run. Some of their locomotives are produced as electrically powered ready to run models.

All Aster production is limited run.  With only two exceptions to date, once production of a model ceases it will not be made again.  Availability in Australia can be checked directly with Argyle.   Earlier models can sometimes be found in stock at retailers in some other countries.  The Aster Home Page has links to retailers around the world.  Refer to the Stock List for availability and pricing.

Aster locomotives are superb, accurate scale models, most impressive on display in the lounge room or hobby room but even more impressive with steam up and actually running on an outdoor garden railway.

Improvements over previous model:

  • Gas system, black painted
  • Centerflue boiler without a separate outer casing
  • Feed water pump installed inside the dummy ash pan under the boiler.  The eccentric for the pump piston fitted to the cylinders crank shaft, in-between the 2nd and the 3rd cylinders
  • Increased Fuel & Water Tank capacity
  • Relocated lubricator tank in the shape of dummy air tank. oil capacity increased.
