The transportation needs increased in the forestry operation in Japan in the early 20th and a new tank locomotive was introduced from the United States. Originally developed by the Baldwin locomotive works for agricultural duty, these 6-10 1/3C tanks came into service with the commencement of the Tsugaru logging railways in 1906. The adaptable B1 tanks had been seen on winding trucks of the famous forest railways including Tsugaru and the Kiso until they were completely replaced by the following Diesel locomotive and autotrucks by 1960.

Aster has completely re designed the Kiso forest railways B1 tank locomotive produced in 1981.
