PROTOTYPE
| The DB52 Kriegslok was a derivative of
the pre-war DB50 locomotive. The war situation required a
reduction in the use of strategic war materials and the
minimising of the labour required to build an engine. The
ultimate consequence of the rationalisation of production techniques
and the application of mass production in the case of the BR50 was
the BR52.
The DB50 was first built in 1934 and
was a two cylinder medium freight locomotive designed to be used
over a wide range of lines. It's comparatively light axle loading
(15 tonnes) and the quality of the original design led to the BR50's
lasting to the end of steam in both East and West Germany with often
comparatively little outward modification for their entire working
lives. |
